We all hear a lot of complaining about the general lack of talent in our industry and often from the resources we used to look to for talent development.
The insurance companies need to support CPCU education and education related to other designations. And if talented employees demand assistance with the pursuit of graduate degrees like MBA then they need to do that as well (where it makes sense).
But missing from this mix are the quality 'company schools' where so many agents, claim, marketing and underwriter staff of today's (about to retire) generation cut their teeth.
The schools were expensive but there are lot's of ways distance learning techniques and technology can be employed to make them cost effective again. Or maybe someone other than the insurance companies can fill the void.
But unless someone does, I fear we all will remain resigned to stealing each other's employees while we watch the pool of available talent continue to diminish.
