Three Years Later, Industry Puts Toxic Mold into Perspective

Features • February 9, 2004
Whatever became of mold? Only three years ago, newspaper headlines, fueled by overzealous trial attorneys and misguided scientific information, trumpeted mold as "the next asbestos." Since then, ...

What absolute "hogwash!" I would like to know for certain where you obtained your information re: mold cases have settled down. As an expert in the field of environmental health research and in litigation cases, I will tell you that many new concerns relating to micro fungi and the environmental effects in regard to human exposures is just now surfacing, and the news is not good! While "naysayers" such as you have tried to calm the tide, much greater emphasis has been placed on the quality of research that is now being presented in the litigation process.

In my latest writing effort, (one of my previous three texts for attorneys, property managers, environmental experts, health officials, etc., is "Toxic Mold! Toxic Enemy!" sold through America's Legal and Professional Book Store in Sacramento and elsewhere in the USA)speaks directly to the subject of human diseases caused by or correlated with long-term or high-level pathogenic "indoor" mold exposures. It also provides easy to understand and logical explanations for the ecological work that micro fungi are specifically designed for.

Let me give you examples of why micro fungi, e.g., Aspergillus Sp., Penicillium Sp., Rhizopus Sp., Fusarium Sp., and many others are so dangerous. 1)First and foremost, they are all "primary decomposers," meaning that they break down living, decaying, and dead matter to its smallest molecular component in a process called the "Carbon Cycle." This also means they prey on dying or deceased humans as well. If you have trouble believing that check out what happens to a dead body shortly after death. This indicates (as we in science are already aware) that molds live symbiotically inside the human biological system and are waiting for the biochemical signals to begin our demise. 2) All micro fungi are in the same form regardless of whether they come in contact with us in the booze we drink, tobacco we chew or smoke, foods we eat, or the air we breath, or the hospital we enter (i.e., nosocomial infections) are one and the same in their physical composition (though they can turn dimorphic- from mold hyphae to yeast form inside the human body). Therefore, it is not the number of molds in the air that cause human illnesses within an environment, but the type of molds and whether or not they are pathogenic (in the air as spore, on the wall as infestations, or in the ventilation or air conditioning systems we use for comfort. In other words, when a mold is a pathogen (disease causing such as it is doing when we observe it on a wall) it can cause health problems, and literally hundreds of thousands of documents (esp., "peer-reviewed" journal types) verify this. If you do not believe this, just go to Google search and type in something like "hepatitis C fungal disease research" and see for yourself (currently, you will find 91,200 documents/websites) on the subject. Try it with almost any disease you can think of. Mold exposures are not a "dead issue" by far! 3) Mind you, I am not hungry for litigation, and absolutely believe this subject belongs in the "medical treatment" and "personal responsibility" realm rather than "insurance liability" realm, but until idiots such as you, who do not know a dammn thing about micro fungi and environmental science, but offer "wishful thinking" articles in condemning indoor micro fungi exposure victims, the American public needs factual science types to set the record straight!

There is so much more to the credibility of this story than politics and insurance brokers, builders, and many other factions have tried to destroy that could be exposed, but not in response to your pitiful attempt in this article. I would be very glad to debate you or any scientist or medical doctor in the United States and world wide live on American television (i.e., Larry King, O'Reilly, 20/20, etc.) so that you could have your big chance to make me a liar! "Put up or shut up!" Science is tired of your lousey, pretentious garbage!
