The HomeOwner's line of business in NY is a loser. Rates are 30% too low, the line is heavily driven by the weather, deductibles are too low, and every peril that you can think of is covered. It is a loss leader so carriers can try to offset those losses with better results in other lines.
Also, Homeowners premiums are at least 1/3 those of Personal Auto, so Imans's numbers don't add up.
