One needn't be an atheist to be concerned about the high cost, in material and emotional capital, of priests abusing their flock, just as if one exposes or decries public school teachers molesting students it doesn't make him anti-education.
Read the prophets and tell me, is God anti-semitic just because He is critical of Israel? Had the bishops A) Not ordained sodomists and B) Punished molesting miscreants who snuck in, there would be much less scandal than there is.
The reason that the priests and the Church are held to a higher standard than "non-christians and atheist... doing these things too" is that the Church and priests are supposed to have higher standards than non-Christians and atheists. Doesn't judgment begin at the house of God? Yes it does, and more awsome words were never spoken.
