I ended up working for the same company that insures my family's autos. I can tell you that GEICO couldn't save me money because of different underwriting standards, where my company made accommodations for the family as the kids got older. GEICO couldn't come near the price, even if they don't pay agent's commission. I happen to prefer an agent who knows me, and understands my exposures because he sees me in the community, at the store, at the gas station etc. GEICO can't compete on the personal level. I love the ads but the same holds true for beer: I don't buy the product based on a cute ad....
