The batterys that power hybrid vehicles are not of the conventional lead/acid variety and can be recycled by the manufacturers of them. A gas/electric hybrid will save roughly 25% on fuel over it's life which of course means less emissions and dependence on forign oil,so why not give new car buyer a few perks for buying one.
