I feel that this is long in coming, but inevitable in its appearence. Many Mass agents are just afraid they will lose clients to whomever has a lower rate; but if underwriting is allowed, only "better" drivers will get those lower rates. Most people prefer the independant agent because, usually, that agent knows them; with the direct writer, it is unlikely the
person on the other end of the phone will
know much about the calling party, if anything. Personal attention counts, count on it! And those direct writers are going to sit back and look at their experience before discounting rates much.
Getting the politicians out of the insurance business and giving the commissioner real power is the first step!
