Leave it to the politicians to put a favorable "spin" on a continuing problem. My son was (past tense) a general surgeon in Philadelphia. He was forced to leave the state 5 years ago because malpractice insurance cost him $80,000/year and he never had a suit filed against him. He and scores of other medical professionals have already left the state. Now the pols are boasting of what a great job they've done. The underlying problem is that even if a suit has no merit and is dismissed, the insurance company must still incur defense costs, and the incident becomes part of the physicians record without qualification is had no merit.
