I fought this legislation from the begining so I thought I would add a little insight. First this was supported by big labor unions complaining about "leveling the playing field" unfortunately it is most likely going to be used as a method of harassment against non labor shops that are following the rules. A recent article in Newsday says the enforcement of the law will depend on "snitches" to call in and "spot checks" by the Suffolk Dept of Labor. Imagine a labor guy coming to your job site asking everybody for papers! Sounds like 1941 all over again So when I win a bid over a union shop what do you think is going to happen? Right I will be accused up the till about hiring illegal or off the books workers. It will cost me a lot of money to overwise prove that all my workers are in fact legal and certify my payroll. The law provides no penalty or reimbursement for those wrongfully accused. Just have a nice day!
