I don't see the problem here. I live in one of these environments and have always been clear on the fact that the "Association" was (by their Constitution & By-Laws) responsible for damages that involve the exterior "Common Elements" of the structure you live in ... and we (as residents) are clearly responsible for all of the interior space, and all of its contents as well - absent willful or gross negligence on the part of the resident. Anyone that did not make that clear to their insurance agent when purchasing their policies are the ones that made the mistake - not the Insurer. In most cases, a standard "Renter's" policy would suffice ... so long as you include everything about the interior of your residence that would need to be included. If you did this right from the start, this new intrepretation should have absolutely no affect on you, or your premium.
