Mariage (originally) was a sacrament from a religeous body.
The government had & has no valid reason to be issuing licenses for a religeous sacrament.
All future licenses for _all_ couples, mixed sex or not, should be licenses for civil unions.
If you want to be married, get thee to a church of your choice which will marry you.
If you want your religeous sacrament honored by the state, get a license for a civil union.
*WACK*
The religeous arguement of what was intended for mariage has just been removed from the concept of two people trying to support one another and make a life together.
I certainly conceed that I don't have an answer to the question about health insurance and people getting civil unions with their friends for the benefits.
I suspect SIU departments could require copies of the civil union contract in order to confirm that they are valid contacts & that all parties are honoring them, but that would be a natural growth of this process.
I guess that the potential cost for my health insurance increasing because of this is such a small portion of my concerns in life that I don't care. Perhaps this makes me one of the lucky ones.
