Subject: What's that thing they say about the judging?
If no one is perfect and people aren't supposed to judge other people because they're not perfect, and supposedly being gay is "immoral" or "wrong", then how come so many people are saying gay people shouldn't have the same rights as other people because being gay is "immoral" and "wrong"? Why are they not allowed to be imperfect like everyone else?
I do things that are wrong sometimes, so what rights am I supposed to surrender based on that? I didn't wait until marriage before having sex. That is "immoral", so should I not have the right to be married?
Also, I'm not a member of any religion and don't plan on changing that any time soon. So does that mean I'm exempt? Actually, I guess that's another mark on my "immoral" list, so what's that one going to cost me? Since I don't believe in any sort of hell, whether it's Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, whatever, to whose hell do I go when I die?
(For the record, I don't believe that being gay is wrong nor immoral. I'm just using those terms for the sake of discussion. I think gay people should have the same treatment everyone else does.)
I also like what was said about civil unions. Interesting, progressive idea. There could be something to that.
For the person who talked about having a civil union with one's roommate only for the sake of benefits, let me tell you, that already happens with heterosexuals. I personally know a couple who got married out of convenience/for benefits. So legalizing gay marriage/civil unions isn't going to have a significant impact there.
As for marrying one's dog... We're talking about two consenting adults. Dogs aren't consenting adults and therefore that angle is just a straw man argument.
