The problem with our justice system is that it's "after the fact". Very little attention and resources are focused on PREVENTION. Fact is, many people are stupid, lazy, irresponsible, negligent or just don't get it. The only way to send them a message is to make the consequence of their actions cost them a SIGNIFCANT PENALTY. Dread makes a valid point. If there is no deterrant, behaviors won't change. There should be no acceptable level of loss of human life because of drunk drivers, cell phone users, texters, or anything else. An automobile is a dangerous piece of equipment and demands 100% attention. Driving IS NOT A PART TIME JOB. Society has allowed convenience to replace responsibility and focus. How bad do things have to get for society to say, "enough"?
