While I totally agree the hospital should be penalized for their disregard for human life, I continue to have a problem awarding big money to the families of deceased victims. Our society has a real problem with equating justice with giving away money to families like this. Why should they receive a windfall profit from a tragic death? Nobody relied on this woman for support, and I'd bet the family didn't even visit her regularly. Trial lawyers have brainwashed the public into thinking they deserve money everytime something bad happens. We all know their liability insurance policy pays the awards so the offending party isn't penalized at all. We need to re-think when, and how much survivors should be compensated.
