most camera's for the rearview are not able to clearly give you a good perception of distance to the real vehicle. it can help in locating things that might be there. if that vehicle had a backup sound, (in most states, it is required for construction vehicles) that person should have heard it. he could not have been working alone at the construction site. there should have been plenty of others on-site, including a safety observer.
