Christ paid the ultimate penalty for our sins and the sins to come, and to the offspring who will proceed us, and their offspring. Christ gave his life not just for our present lifetime but also into our eternity. All we have to do is accept, believe, and like sheep, follow.
I guess you could consider this incident, a "reflection" of us. Are we so stunned by our own reflection that we don't recognize our own selves and we cause harm? Such is the case of a "lost" sheep, and Christ the good Shepard leads us out of harms way.
