Subject: RE: When Pigs Fly
Before I post these numbers, I want to be clear that I believe that _some_ of the hysteria is needed... maybe not quite all that I have been seeing.
Assiatic (Russian) Flu: 1889-1890
Death Toll: approx. 1 Million
Spanish Flu: 1918-1920
Death Toll: Estmated at 40-100 Million
Asiam Flu: 1957-1958
Death Toll: approx. 1.25 Million
Hong Kong Flu: 1968-1969
Death Toll: 850,000
Now, the reason why I think that I agree they hysteria should be backed off?
' The 1976 swine flu outbreak (aka swine flu fiasco) was a strain of H1N1 influenza virus that appeared in 1976, circulated for one month, and apparently disappeared. It prompted a mass immunization in the United States. The strain hospitalized 13 people and killed one, all from Fort Dix.'

About 500 cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome, resulting in death from severe pulmonary complications for 25 people, were probably caused by an immunopathological reaction to the 1976 vaccine.'

In the end: YMMV.
