Well Danno I don't know what state you live in but here in Michigan we have what's called "no fault" insurance. Basically what it means is that if you happen to be involved in an accident, even tho the other party is the cause of the accident your insurance covers your damages and the other driver's insurance covers their's. The only way you may be able to get ANYTHING from the other party's insurance company is to get a police report that stated the other party is at fault and then you can only get up to $500.00!!
As for the MCCA which is the Michigan Catastophic Claims Association. It is, in my opinion, a rip off. The way I look at it the no fault insurance is a crock of crap also. We, the citizens in the boondocks of Michigan are paying for every dumbass driver that lives in more populated areas...can you say "Detoit"?
No fault was brought about because insurance premiums were getting out of hand for the poor bastards that had a lot of claims and were high risk so in all their wisdom "no fault" was brought into play. All it does is jack rates over the whole population so dick heads that don't know how to drive can afford to anyway.
MCCA kicks in after $375,000 for injuries is spent by the insurance company. This ammount goes into effect July 1st of this year.
The way I look at it is.... Do away with no fault. Do away with the MCCA. If you live in a more risk prone area then you will be charged accordingly. If you have a piss poor driving record then you will be charged accordingly. If you have say only $100,000 injury coverage and you do have an accident and your medical bills go over that amount then you will be held responsible for anything over $100,000. It's not all that difficult to figure out.
As for the helmet law. I think it should be up to the riders to decide if a helmet is to be wore by them. I myself have been riding for well over 3 decades and have rode both with and without a skid lid what about you Danny Boy?
