I have worked in property claims for almost 40 years. My father-in-law was an independent agent. Because I was in claims, his insureds knew what coverage they had because he explained the coverage they did not have and made them initial a box they stated they had been told.

When they came back and said they did not understand, he was able to show them that they had been explained the exclusion and that was what kept him from having an E & O claim.

With companies backing away from agents and going to direct writing, mayb e they should have the same solicitor that is generating the business explain the coverages.

It also might be a good idea for the insured to READ THE POLICY. Most are in easy read today so even a Caveman can understand it
