I talk with consumers all the time and recommend that they seek out the advice of a good independent agent. A responsible agent is a consumer's best friend. They help homeowners, drivers, patients, and business owners navigate the increasingly complex maze that our insurance market has become. They serve as advocates for their policyholders. They give insureds options that a website can not give.

However, a bad agent who doesn't respect his/her clients or who thinks that consumers are "stupid" (as you've so eloquently stated), does more harm than good.

Online insurers want to run agents out of business because it is cheaper and more efficient for the company. By holding such a negative view of the people you are supposed to be helping, you will hasten the day that agents go the way of the dinosaurs. After all, if consumers are treated with disrespect by a flesh and blood agent, why wouldn't they just go to a website?
