"Under God" was added to the pledge in the 1950's as a reaction to the "red menace". It was another side-effect of the McCarthy era. The original pledge was simply, "I pledge allegience to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands." The "indivisible" bit was after the civil war.
And last I checked, this will piss you off, the three Abrahamic faiths all worship the same God. Go figure.
