Had an expression that I'll never forget. Remembering it has served me well. He said, "Son, you had better be nice to folks on the way up 'cause you're likely to meet them again on the way down". Eliot, too bad my Daddy didn't have a chance to save you. The public seems to hate politicians but it hates hypocrites even more. Since you're a hypocritical politician, then you don't stand a chance!
