I do not belong to the PIA so I cannot comment on their level of involvement, but I am very involed with the Independent Insurance Agents Association both on a national and local level. The article makes a lot of great points. I know it takes a lot of money to lobby Congress. Frankly I know the Association has been very active in beating back the Federal Charter, but we as agents are being outspent by the Life Companies Association, Banks and a select few P & C companies ten to one. It is amazing to me how many agents can sit back and belly ache yet not contribute anything on a financial basis, or be willing to get involved with their legislature to beat back this bill. It is not too late to get involved with your local Asocation and contribute. I know for a fact we as P & C Agents are going to regret it very much if the regulatory agency becomes the Federal Government. Try and list one time the Federal Government has done a better job than the State Government in regulations. Did the Banks do a good job in the Mortgage Business? What kind of job did the Federal Government do with Katrina? Come on agents do you really want the Federal Government regulating our industry? Let's get busy before it is too late.
