First of all, this isn't new and the last carriers that tried it through Sam's Club lost their shirts, got out and regretted the whole thing.
Second, companies are going to do what they think they need to do to capture market share. IA's shouldn't be surprised and should wake up and smell the coffee. Consumer buying habits are changing and companies are trying to keep up. Besides, why should an IA feel threatented when they have superior service?
