So tell me, how long until Bernake and the US Tres. offer the same loan(s) to Hartford, as was provided to AIG?
Will this turn into the Lehman to Merrill argument? Let one fail, while saving another?
The govt. has slid so far into this slippery slope, they have NO clue on what is the best next step.
Our gov.t was not and is not set-up to handle these types of financial pressures. The consequences are what they are! Screw the rest of the world; start looking inward to save the USA!
Protectionism - you are damn right. If banks domestically fail, use the the US Treas. as the backstop for that - NOT to prop up the rest of the world economy. If other US financial companies fail, back-stop the investor funds (like you did for Enron) and let the chips fall. You can't save everything and the drunk, fat and greedy, will suddenly become sober, thin and frugal - which is what built this great country.
For too many years, has the USA been domestic servant, financial big-brother and guardian angel of the world. You can't help anyone, unless you first - help yourself. Stop disappointing the responsible tax payers of this country.
Revolution and civil war are next - mark my words, the middle class will NOT put up with this much longer. Once the spinning stops, the cold truth of poverty, food shortages, homelessness, and 25%+ unemployment will SHOCK us into reality....and this will be just in time for Social Security to go bankrupt.
