Which liberal think tank did this come out of. Does anybody believe Medicare really saves money and enhances the qaulity of healthcare? Myth one, $47M uninsured American citizens. If you exclude the voluntarily uninsured and illegal aliens, number probably less than half of that. Myth two, the government can run healthcare more effectively than the private sector. Basically, the majority of hard working Americans will pay more taxes and intrust more money and control to the Federal government so that a very small percentage of the population does not have to really think about how to get medical insurance. Oh, not to mention that similar systems in Canada, the UK and Australia don't work. Many people there buy supplemental private care, increasing not reducing the cost of health insurance, so that they can have access to doctors or their chosing and not be subject to rationing. The US currently has be best doctors and medical facilities in the world and the vast majority of Americans access this system everyday with financial support through government agencies that already exist, employer sponsored group health, personal health policies and hospital charities. There are certainly issues with increasing cost and access that can include 100% of Americans, but our focus should be on private sector reforms and not government control with increased regulations and diminished individial freedom.
