Subject: Lessons from Hawaii
The state provided a subsidized "public option" to "compete" with private insurers.
Families quickly decided that they'd rather be a subsidizee than a subsidizer, so they flocked to the government plan.
Costs of the government plan skyrocketed, and there were no longer enough subsidizers to support the plan, so the plan folded.
It's not competition when the government weighs in with a subsidized plan. This is not news to Obama & co. They really want universal health care, but speaking the language of free markets and competition is the only way to convince the public to buy in. Fortunately, the public seems to be smarter than they counted on.
