We have serious damage to our roof from hurricane Rita and there's water damage inside our home. The FEMA blue tarp people have come, so hopefully, the temp repairs will keep more rain water out for now. We have some mold, but we are squirting it with chemicals and trying to keep it down as best we can. We have cracks in our rafters and other problems suggesting structural damage. We are not poor, but we have four kids and are not rich either. We got upset with Allstate several years ago and didn't realize nobody was issuing homeowners in Louisiana. We had no idea telling Allstate to take a hike would leave us stuck with with Louisiana Citizens Fair Plan. It was october 1 or thereabouts when I called to make a claim and was given a claim number. Everytime I call back they say my claim is still being processed. Apparently no adjuster has been assigned to us. I'm now wondering if I will have to get a FEMA/SBA loan to repair my house and pay it back down the road when FAIR plan gets it together. I'm guessing the state insurance commissioner and/or the courts will eventually figure out how to make them pay. I'm trying to get roofers and others to give me estimates on repairing the damage. RE: Fair Plan--Is it time to panic or is it all going to work out? I wonder if the state legislature can do anything to make them more responsive.
