Dear Herb, We have had a little detail like Hurricane Wilma, which just hit us on Monday, which explains my late response. Did you receive any paperwork in exchange for your check? Usually there is a "binder" in the paperwork, which is absolute, positive proof of insurance for a stated amount of time, for example, 45 days, which gives time for the insurance company to look everything over, and issue or deny the policy, but still with the 45 days of coverage. I would check to see if you can find that binder. Also, even with the FAIR plan, there has to be a series of letters to you that, if they do not accept your application as is, which tells why, and when your coverage will end. If your check was cashed, and received nothing back in the mail, you probably have insurance. I would go ahead and file a "claim", even though you may not have gotten a policy. Was it delivered to the wrong house, was it lost in the mail, etc, etc, etc ? Try to find your binder or paperwork, and also file a claim. Name and address should be sufficient. If you get an adjuster assigned to you, MAKE SURE that you get his cell phone so that you can politely pepper him with questions and ask him how to get things done.
