For some of the first empirical results on the effects of WC networks in California, Connecticut and Texas, see:Baldwin, Marjorie L., William G. Johnson and Steven C. Marcus, "Effects of Provider Networks on Health Care Costs for Workers with Short-Term Injuries." Medical Care. (August 2002)Another study on the effects of networks on durations of work absences is under review at a journal. The studies together show that networks both reduce costs and hasten returns to work.
