It's the liberals like this that will keep the system from working. The REAL number of uninsured motorist is probably closer to 38%. The 25% comes from TXDPS statistics and/or "blue forms" based on REPORTED accidents. I know of a police accident investigator that worked an accident involving five cars, and NON of them had insurance!

As far as the "poor people not being able to afford it" - driving on the streets of Texas is a PRIVILEGE....NOT a RIGHT! The poor people that you talk about are the ones that can LEAST AFFORD to be involved in an accident with an uninsured driver.

Hopefully the electronic verification program set to go live in December, 2006 will help to police this. In States that have a valid system, the UM rate is in the single digit area.
