Just have to throw in my 2 cents worth. It isn't the breed, it is the owner. If they would throw the owner in jail for a harsh sentence, it seems that would deter someone from teaching a pit to be aggressive. My son has two pitbulls that are safer around children than my black labrador. They are so gentle and don't know a stranger. If he depended on them to protect his house, he would lose everything, they would just lick the intruder to death at the most. I had the same thoughts about them at first also, but seeing is believing. It sickens me to read an article about a pitbull attack because the dog gets all the blame. Where is the blame and punishment for its owner? I agree they should be insured and registered, but so should any dog capable of biting regardless of breed. No, they aren't born knowing how to be mean, that is taught by their irresponsible owners and that is where the blame should be placed.
