I hear that Cuba, China and formerly Russia have the type of Socialistic program you are looking for, but the good Lord willing we will never have it in the United States, where you are entitled to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness, it is not guaranteed and it is not provided for you by the government at my expense, its yours if you can afford it. If you paid for insurance and a policy was not issued, you are due a refund from your title company that withheld the money from closing, if it was forwarded to an insurance agent and he has the money, I would ask for a refund NOW. Chances are you will not be able to get the policy that you originally thought you were getting. I'm not sure where your home really is but if it is in Florida and its 2 hours EAST of the ocean you are in the Bahamas, If it is 2 hours WEST, you are either in the panhandle or the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. and YES, Kansas policies do take into account the exposure of tornadoes, and California policies do NOT cover Earthquake, it must be purchased seperately. You CAN get insurance from Citizens property insurance, if you can find an agent that will write it for you, It will cost you a big chunk of money, but NOT $500 / month. Don't be fooled into thinking your home is permanetly attached to the ground, it is anchored to the ground and is subject to becoming detached if the wind is strong enough, assuming the walls don't implode first. Mobile homes are less expensive than concrete or site built homes and that is the only reason they still exist, they are not as safe and are much more prone to damage from wind and fire, this is why it is more expensive to insure them than site built homes, the risk is higher. Florida has enjoyed 40 years of relatively calm winds, and the experts predict 15 years of increased activity, so if it is too expensive you can leave or get ready to pay more for just about everything. Have you looked at the price of gas lately? or Milk. Your not alone, everyone is going to pay more to stay here, or wherever you are.
