I assume that "finite re-insurance" is similar to the "financial r/i" that received so much press during the HIH Royal Commission.

If so, then what is wrong with it IF one simultaneously accounts for both the payment received and the future premium to be paid. During this will result in a small loss for the company who buys the cover but the "loan" can assist with working cash flow where, eg, high acquisition costs occur.
