your comments are correct but this is a case where wealthy Floridians do not want competition. It's quite obvious to even the most inept insurance person that rates on the coastal windzones are grossly inadaquate for long term profitablity. The current situation subsidizes wealth property owners in these areas at the expense of raising rates for inland owners.

The coastal property owners are more than happy to have the inland schucks pay a portion of their premium.

This really is common sense. the marketplace would charge much, much higher rates that currently charged in these high risk areas.

Since the politicians need this wealthy owners campaign contributions and there votes they aren't even remotely interested in bringing in a competitive marketplace.
