Bert I would agree that wind rates are to low in coastal areas, But they are to low in inland areas as well. There is a wonderful graphic that I wish I could post, that shows that it was inland counties that suffered multiple hurricanes, Orlando for example (VERY inland) got hit 3 times and the rates in Orlando are 1/3 of what they are in any coastal county. Your theory sounds good, but the old thought that the wind stops 1000 feet from the shore it not valid. 3 storms zipped across the entire state and came out very strong on the other side. There is more to fixing this problem than rates, it involves a total change in the way wind is treated in policies, but this requires a rate change as well, that DFS won't currently give. suck it up people if we want to stay here it is going to cost more for insurance.
