PURPOSE OF SAVING P.I.P
The purpose of this page is to encourage the formation of a coalition of insurers, trial lawyers and reputable doctors and hospitals to join together and present a plan for the legislature to readopt P.I.P. in its existing form with increases in fraud prosecution funding for three more years. That is the entire agenda – get the legislature to agree that the reforms of 2001 and 2003 are beginning to help loss ratios and reduce suits and should be given a chance to do what they were adopted to do – improve the solvency of the automobile insurance market in Florida and reduce fraud. In a year when the entire law is on the chopping block the issue must be kept to a simple question requiring little research and even less legislative committee review – Do keep our P.I.P. system or not?
Fortunately, many of the smaller carriers need P.I.P. to entice sales of more profitable lines and understand the importance of getting past this critical sunset year in order to keep it around. Like these carriers, we believe that, while the system is not where we all want it to be, the market is healthy and P.I.P. is worth keep.
