Regarding comments of FP Davis. I totally understand what you are going through. I am in the same situation. I pay for Medicare and AARP supplemental and also had a very good auto ins policy, including PIP. It is not only when you travel overseas, you end up with noone to pay your bills due to an accident. I only traveled to Ohio, my home state being Florida. I was hit in the back as a pedestrian by a van in Ohio. I already had pins & rods in my back. There was no question as to who was 100% at fault. When I flew home a few days later, my doctors wouldn't see me. Every doctor I called said they don't see persons involved in auto accidents unless I paid every expense up front. I am a non working RN and on Medicare. I filed a claim with my ins co and was told PIP won't pay because it happened out of the state and I was not in a car. They told me Medicare won't pay either, that I had to file a claim with the 3rd party (the guy who hit me). I did that. They said they won't pay a cent unless I sign off immediately and even then, they were not willing to even pay for the bills I had already acquired. Medicare has not only stopped paying claims related to the accident, but they won't pay ANY of my medical bills. They've rejected thousands of dollars and won't even answer any of my questions. All they say is I have other insurance (the third party who hit me who won't pay a cent). I HAVE NO health coverage now for ANYTHING, all due to PIP. My credit will be shot and I will be financially ruined. I have a lot of health problems from the accident and other and can't go to a doctor. I have been so upset due to the pain and frustration from PIP and Medicare & 3rd party not paying, and leaving me with no insurance, my B/P has been running 220/115. PIP has not only financially destroyed me, they are going to cause me to have a stroke or worse. What also upsets me is that it doesn't say in your insurance policy that pip won't pay if out of the state and not in your car. Why is this kept SECRET? You only find it if you look it up in the statutes. Most Floridians don't know this Why would our state have a law like this. Most insurance companies don't even know this. Mine didn't till they researched it several weeks after the fact. So, dont ever go out of the state, because if you are a pedestrian & someone runs you down, you will not get a cent from anyone to pay your bills, due to PIP.
