Subject: Florida
I might make the suggestion that if you can't afford the insurance now just wait a couple of years until the backlash of the political scam known as Citizens collapses.
Floridians continue to believe that everyone else is as corrupt and inept as they are. It's simply not the case. Few people outside of Florida have any difficulty in understanding that concept that even the worst case scenario on fire, tornado, hail or snow cannot even remotely reach the level of damage even a small hurricane will do. Somehow it's the insurance companies fault that maybe they would prefer not to write in this area when they can write in 40 or so other states without these concerns.
The only reason any prudent company would write in Florida is because they could charge more rate and or get better terms than in other states. This is not the case due to inept regulation and the resulting chaos is predictable and understandable.
It's unfortunate that people will have to move or go without coverage. However, as an Illinois resident, I really have no desire to generate excess profit for my insurance company so that you can pay less rate than you should. If my company cannot charge adequate rates in Florida I really don't want them operating there and hope they are smart enought to withdraw given what's going on.
There is no "conspiracy" to overcharge and underservice Floridians. It's a dysfunctional marketplace that has little promise of stablizing in the near future.
