Like most Floridians you totally dance around the issue. The issue is that when faced with increasing premium costs you want others to pay for it. The latest scheme is a "national program" to protect us all from cat losses such as Hurricanes, Floods and Earthquakes. People in Illinois live in constant fear of these events and feel it only fair that we can pay for you to live in imprudent places.

I'm truly happy that you love Florida and life's good for you. It's the American dream and you have earned it. What I really don't want is the scolialist dream of having to pay for your happiness.

Regarding the competition aspect of your post. You won't get competition at $1,500. While I know nothing about your living quarters I do know that where you are located has a strong likelihood of signficant damage every decade or so. Contrast this with Midestern housing that may get severely damaged every century or so. It's just a numbers game. This does not even factor in the fraud, corruption and inept regulation and activist judges that don't seem to be able to read a contract in Florida. Florida has problems in every single line of coverage and contrary to what you might think it's not some vast insurance conspiracy against the citizens of Florida. It's been created by Floridians and now you want everyone else to bail you out.

Most of us in the know on this issue politically realize that the rest of the country will end up subsidizing people who choose to live on the coast, fault zones and flood plains. Our only hope is that the judicial side of the equation will realize that this is just an illegal tranfer of wealth. I'm not holding my breath.
