Take it a step further.

Keep premium dollars given to someone else, and steadily save / invest them for 5-10-40+ years.

Just make sure the home construction is highly flood, wind and fire resistant, and the contents can be (affordably) replaced.

Or, do business with an Insurance Company, that has a truly honorable reputation.
