Subject: "The Rest of the Story"
The 30 year old driver was born in England and has been in the U.S. for only a year. It was 8:00pm The "instructor" was her 51 year old step father. This was her first lesson. She was behind the wheel of a friend's pick-up truck with the drivers door open. The stepfather was standing next to her, in front of the open door, apparently giving her verbal instructions for backing out of the gravel driveway of her trailer.
She accelerated in reverse. The door caught him and he fell. The front tire of the pick-up truck ran over the step-father's leg, bending it sideways at a 90 degree angle. The truck continued backward dragging the man across the street. Doctors originally wanted to amputate the leg but decided against it.
The driver failed a field sobriety test and was arrested at the scene. Her husband told police she had consumed four glasses of wine but wasn't intoxicated.
