I found it very peculiar that an insurer would sponsor auto racing. I would not be surprised that many fans try to use the tactics of their favorite driver in real life. Drafting, bumping, and exceeding the the speed limit are probably occur more frequently in this group than the general public.

But perhaps Nationwide believes that this group already have a checkered driving record and will be willing to pay very high premiums. They may find that if they get a few, high premium clients it will be an alternative to the rest of the market chasing numberous low premium clients.

Quite a gamble, which Nationwide will see when they get their first liability loss for their insured who chose to "spin out" a competing car on the interstate.
