Florida Subpoenas Allstate Over Home Insurance Rate Increases, Industry Ties

I was reading one of your previous posts and you should think about what you said said. I quote "As for the insurance in the Keys, ... most of them pay over $10k for their insurance, and they are like I said $200k homes" (minor edit to take out extraneous info)
Please look at a map and tell me that it is not THE most exposed area of Florida. If I recall correctly, ANY time a hurricane treatens that specific area an almost mandatory evacuation is required. Why? Because it is surrounded on all sided by water with only one road access availible to most of the chain.

Not only that it is one of the most LOW-LYING areas of Florida, with no spot on the Keys being more then a mile from the water. I do believe it has been pointed out that a majority of Hurricane damage occurs within 5 miles of the coast and less severe damage up to 30 miles in.

So here we are, you've built your home on an island less then a mile from the water with very little in the way of land features that will slow the wind or water, and you have the NERVE to complain about your insurance rates? You are extremely lucky that there is anyone willing to insure those homes. Those are the sorts of homes that cause the insurance for just about everyone else in the state to go up due to continued losses every time a storm comes in to visit.

And regarding my comment about moving to a less disaster prone area? Move off the islands (which are just oversized sandbars anyways) and get onto the mainland. I can guarantee that your rates will go down once your 10+miles from the shore. (Yes you can still live in Florida)
