Subject: Speed Trap
A speed trap, as I see it is an officer hidden from your sight near a speed zone change that is not noticably marked, nor necessary. For example: On a rural highway (Hwy 5 South) outside a small town in south Alabama there is a speed zone change that is easily overlooked. The speed zone changes about three miles outside the city limits from 55 to 45 on a long straightaway, IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE! Let me make it clear that there are NO businesses, schools, hospitals or subdivisions, only a few houses. No reason for the speed zone change exists this far outside the town. There is NO safety issue. The police sit near the speed zone change where you cannot see them and if you miss the sign accidentally................ BLUE LIGHTS AND A TICKET! This is what I consider a speed trap. They do exist and you can fall victim. However, the law is the law and I realize that ignorance and oversight are no excuse. That is why I always try to obey the speed limit. Hope this helps!
