Totally agree. I worked at a major amusement park for 3 summers as a ride op. Average age was between as low as 15 to 20 or so at the max. I saw some scary things during my time there: lots of injuries and one kid even died after having a seizure when getting off a roller coaster (that one was never reported to the major media).

What most people don't understand is that the ride op has very little control over the ride once it actually starts. 95% is completely automated. Sometimes it's possible to hit "emergency stop" but often it won't do anything once the ride gets past a certain brake point.

The rides were always inspected by the top maintenance personnel every morning, and every ride op did a walk-through before the park opened. However, it's doubtful something like this would have been seen by anyone that wasn't a mechanic.

My heart goes out to the poor girl, and I pray that Six Flags do more than offer her "lifetime care."
