This is simply terrible but it was an accident and the company settled things to the satisfaction of the family. As for admitting fault, what planet are you from. Honesty in situations like this get you nothing but creamed in court. There is no mercy for admitting wrong just settlements that normally get booed on these posts. It is possible that the cable just snapped with no warning.
