We lost our home to a fire on August 29th, 2004. We are in dispute with our insurer because the cost to rebuild it is more then the replacement cost of the policy so we consider it a total loss. We do not want to rebuild at that location for a number of reasons yet the insurer states they will not pay replacement cost if we don't rebuild.
We have hired an adjustment firm to handle this loss for us and it has been almost 6 months without any resolution.
Can anyone explain what this law actually means to the consumer? What rights do we have with this new law? Any information we could get on this issue would be very appreciated.
We can't get our life back on track at this rate and we are one year from retirement being forced to play these games.
