Even though the divorce rate is 53%, there are legal requirements whereby health benefits are not lost after the divorce. Citing Spears and Taylor are two bad examples.
Take a look at countries like Holland that have allowed gay marriages for a number of years. Marriage amonst hetrosexuals is down drastically, along with an increase in out of wedlock births. The evidence so far shows that gay marriage has an adverse effect on a country.
As to May's comment "This is nothing more than a power grab by legislators who want to use government to impose their personal morality on everybody in the state", it sounds like May wants to impose HIS personal morality (or lack there of) on Arizona.
