Both of the previous posts seem to forget about accidents and other sudden illness. We have a 3 year old Min Schnauzer that was bit by a spider. This resulted in severe necrosis and liver damage. 12 days in intensive care and three skin surgeries would have cost me a bundle withour pet insurance. I also have a cat that spent one of her lives crushed by an automatic garage door, but lived. Pets get hit by cars and swallow stuff all the time...no matter what their age.
